He missed out on everything, except this: I personally don't think Page is overrated - yet I don't think he has Beck's talent on guitar.Ĭlick to expand.Poor Jeff Beck. I haven't looked at a lot of Pagey's playing in recent years - except for that silly Olympics Closing Ceremony appearance so I'll have to see if he can still turn it on. And Beck still has all his chops intact to this day. Beck, on the other hand, is absolutely one with the instrument both live and in the studio.

(He's probably a better rhythm player than Beck though - Beck doesn't play much rhythm at all - it's nearly all a sort of solo). I think Page played well in the studio in fact he has played some of the greatest guitar solos of all time - I'm thinking of No Quarter and Stairway to Heaven etc - but live, at least with Zeppelin, his solos were kind of a choppy mess and seemed to have no phrasing he seems to be fighting the instrument.

Page was more a big picture guy though, especially with his studio chops. Well I actually agree with you in most respects but it's hard not to compare them 'cause they had almost all the same roots, were in the same band and had similar ideas about supercharging the blues.
